Bunna Lawrie, a proud Mirning elder, is a multi-award winning and hugely influential musician. With his band, Coloured Stone, formed almost 40 years ago in 1977, he has performed at almost every remote Aboriginal community in Australia as well as the Edinburgh Festival, Sydney 2000 Olympics, the Garma, Woodford and WOMADelaide Festivals, and numerous other events around Australia and the globe.
He has nurtured countless indigenous artists, collaborated with musicians including Midnight Oil, Paul Kelly, KD Lang and Julian Lennon, and won ARIA and Deadly awards, and been inducted into the National Indigenous Music Awards Hall of Fame.
Bunna is also a passionate environmentalist, working to protect his scared totem, the Southern Right Whale. He tells us:
I support Divestment because we need to save Mother Earth from destruction.
