My Grandmother and my mother were Commonwealth Bank customers and I got my first account with that same bank when I was just 5 years old. My 8 year old son has just asked if he could start his own savings account. The discovery that the Commonwealth Bank is investing $5,199m in fossil fuels is shameful; that my family’s funds have contributed to funding fossil fuels is unacceptable.
Our intergenerational family banking stops now if the Commonwealth Bank continues to fund environmental destruction. There are bountiful, reliable, sustainable technologies that contribute positively to the planet’s future and I call on the Commonwealth Bank to invest our money there.
